The island is the birthplace for generations of jewellery artisans and designers, creators of unique and unrepeatable emotions. They convey a passion that stems from tradition and grows with the inspiration of new generations who combine the invaluable experience of their families with the latest designs. Mallorca is a Muse for jewellery collections with lots of history that are created in the workshops of precious metal craft workers who are passionate about beauty and feelings.

A STORY BEHIND EVERY PIECE OF JEWELLERY

It is savoir-faire that is inherited. For Isabel Guarch, a second generation member of a jewellery making family, “it is a way of life, design and creation do not arise sporadically, and I am 100% connected, 24 hours a day”.

It has been 60 years since her mother, Isabel, started out in the profession, and 35 since she began her own company and turned it into the company par excellence for fine jewellery design. Since she became a part of the business, after studying gemology and design in Paris, her daughter, the current company director and ambassador, has attained a perfect coexistence between tradition and modernity. This mix defines the collections of Isabel Guarch, that are inspired by Mediterranean history and the great riches that were brought to the island by Phoenician, Greek and Roman precious metalworkers…Isabel Guarch’s designs are adapted to meet the needs of modern urbane, independent and versatile women who want exclusive pieces.

Another member of the small and select dynasty of artisans in Mallorca is Nicolás Joyeros, who have had their own jewellery and watchmaking studio for over 90 years. Their origins date back to 1925, when Nicolás Pomar founded the company’s studio. Currently, the third generation of the family continues the jewellery making tradition with the same age-old special dedication behind every piece. The same emotion applied to each of the parts involved (metalsmith work, stone setting, etching, polishing, rhodium plating…) is then transmitted to the client. In their collections, “each item of jewellery is a very delicate piece that must be well proportioned with a good finish and an air of quality about it”; that is where the beauty of their work resides.

EMOTIONS CREATORS

Special, unique and exclusive pieces of jewellery are those which stir up deep emotions. They perfectly blend craft work with the style and spirit of every client. The work of Nicolás Joyeros exemplifies this, and the company believes that “what a piece of jewellery conveys is priceless; values, gratitude, passion, beauty, a complete magical world, etc.” Furthermore, above all, the pieces by Nicolás Joyeros, reflect quality and affection in their finishes. For example, a watch by this company “is more than just an item that tells the time, it is a work of art and a feat of engineering”. We also should not forget about their particular workshop of emotions, where they transform old treasures into new and redesigned pieces than can beenjoyed generation after generation.

Every item of jewellery by Isabel Guarch is also worth more than a thousand words. “When I am designing a piece of jewellery I think that it has positive meaning for whoever wears it, I like to believe that each piece can sense the soul of the wearer; it is like a perfume, you make it your own when you wear it”, confesses the designer, who believes that “the purchase of an item of jewellery is a very special moment and that there is a piece of jewellery for each person and for every occasion”. That is why the company also designs pieces upon request and even redesigns pieces from clients or uses their own materials, because a piece of jewellery is as a great emotional legacy.

“The added value of our collections is their history, everything has a meaning, an origin, time stands still for them, just as it does for a work of art, and it is a tradition to be shared between one generation and the next”. Mallorca, states Isabel Guarch, its islands, the Mediterranean, offer an almost limitless amount of historical icons that have fallen into oblivion over time. A fascinating part of the jeweller’s work is to bring them back into view again.
